Saputo to become Bologna’s new Main Partner
Joey Saputo – alongside his family – is set to strengthen his bond with the city and the supporters: the Saputo Group logo will be printed on the jerseys of Bologna FC 1909 in the 2023/24 season, with an option of an extension through 2024/25.
The Saputo family’s involvement in world football has been steadily on the rise since the foundation of CF Montreal in the ‘90s to their acquisition of Bologna in 2014. Specifically, Bologna, of whom Joey Saputo is the President, have consolidated their position; the Rossoblù achieved a ninth-place finish in the top flight last season, finishing on 54 points – a record for the Club in Serie A in the three-points-per-win era.
Big investments have been made into the infrastructure at the Club, with a new, state-of-the-art training center and an initial modernization of the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara ahead of the planned works to redevelop the ground. The Youth Sector and social initiatives in the local area have also been boosted.
“I began to invest in sports, and in football in particular, 30 years ago now, first with Montreal and then Bologna, with the constant support of my family and the Group,” said Joey Saputo. “This year, we wanted the Saputo logo to appear on Bologna’s shirts in order to reaffirm the family’s commitment to promoting sports in a competitive sense, but also in terms of education and solidarity. I like to think that my family is becoming an ever more integral part of this city’s economic and social fabric.”
