Bologna Women is the Club’s women’s section, founded in the summer of 2020 following the transition from A.S.D. Bologna FC 1909 to the current Bologna FC 1909 S.p.A.
The section initially consisted of the First Team and the Under-19s, both run by the Men’s Youth Sector. In their first historic Serie C season, the Rossoblù came close to earning promotion to the second tier with a squad made up entirely of players developed locally.
The following season saw the creation of a dedicated women’s football department under the leadership of Gianni Fruzzetti. The major breakthrough came on 30 April 2023, when a 25th consecutive league victory mathematically secured promotion to Serie B. It capped a remarkable run of consistency and marked a historic milestone for Bologna Women in Italian football.
Alongside the First Team’s emergence as one of the leading sides in Italy’s second tier, the Club has continued to invest in the growth of its youth setup. The academy now includes Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 teams, as well as an Under-12 side introduced in the summer of 2026, taking the total number of registered players to 151.
That pathway is already bearing fruit, with young Rossoblù players earning call-ups to Italy’s youth national teams and, in some cases, making the step up to become established members of the First Team.
The project expanded further in the summer of 2023 with the launch of a futsal section, which went on to finish top of the Veneto/Emilia-Romagna group twice and win two regional Coppa Italia titles. Three years later, that progress was rewarded with promotion to Serie B through the repechage process, marking another important step in the continued growth of Bologna Women.
