Nicolò Casale joins Bologna
Bologna FC 1909 can confirm that Nicolò Casale has joined the Club on loan from Lazio until 30 June 2025. The Rossoblù have an option to make the deal permanent and an obligation to buy should certain conditions be met.
A strong right-footed centre-back, Nicolò is joining the Rossoblù off the back of three good seasons in Serie A. In that team, he also made his Champions League debut, played Europa League and Conference League football, and was called up to Italy by head coach Luciano Spalletti. Having come through at Verona, he had loan spells with Perugia, Prato and Südtirol, before being brought into Dionisi’s side when Hellas were still in Serie B. He flourished, showing off his ball-playing skills, personality, positioning and elegance in the challenge. Dionisi then took Casale with him to Empoli on loan in the summer of 2020 and he starred for the Tuscan side as they won promotion to Serie A, were crowned champions of the second tier and finished the season on 73 with one of the best defences in the league. That campaign convinced Verona to make him a mainstay in their squad and, under Igor Tudor, Nicolò made his top-flight debut. Casale featured heavily at the heart of a back three for a brilliant Hellas side, who finished the season in ninth place. He caught Sarr’s eye and made the switch to Lazio where he was lauded for his commitment and consistency alongside Romagnoli. In his second season in the capital, he once again played under Tudor. He made a total of 63 competitive appearances for the Biancocelesti. Now, in 2024, he joins the Rossoblù.
