Inzaghi: “We didn’t deserve to lose”

Filippo Inzaghi had this to say following today’s defeat to Atalanta:

“We deserved to be leading by at least two goals at half-time, and then in the opening stages of the second half Dzemaili’s effort was heading in but for Palomino’s block. But we held our own against a team that will certainly be fighting to qualify for Europe, although it is disappointing to have lost the game. Their two goals came from the ball falling to their players when we were challenging for the ball, and this was a shame because we were keeping their quality players in check. We were excellent and aggressive in the first half, but we also have to congratulate Atalanta on their second-half performance. They caused us problems because they are a strong team: their coaching staff can bring excellent players such as Pasalic, Zapata or Rigoni off the bench. But what gives me encouragement is our performance: we played at the same level as a very strong team. The result is a shame but we’ll go again from here. And don’t forget Palacio had a great chance when the score was 2-1, only to be denied by their goalkeeper. I’m convinced that we didn’t deserve to lose.”
