Giaccherini’s goal against Belgium was the 61st for Italy by a Rossoblù player

A Bologna player scored for Italy last night after a drought of nearly three years. Before Giaccherini’s goal against Belgium yesterday, Alessandro Diamanti had been the most recent Rossoblù player to score in Italy blue when he netted on 30th June 2013 in the Azzurri’s 2-2 draw with Uruguay in the Confederations Cup third/fourth place play-off. The total number of Azzurri goals from Bologna players therefore rises to 61. Schiavio was the most prolific international goalscorer with 15. Overall, we have provided Italy with players who have made a total number of 371 appearances with Bulgarelli leading the way on 29 caps.

Furthermore, the last goal from a Bologna player at a major tournament came on 23rd June 1998 when Roberto Baggio scored in the 89th minute during a 2-1 win against Austria at the World Cup in France. Giac’s goal last night was the first Rossoblù goal at a European Championship finals in the modern format.
