Statue of Arpad Weisz to be unveiled in Budapest on Wednesday
On Wednesday 31 May at 15:00 CEST in Budapest, the venue of the Europa League final, a ceremony will be held to unveil a statue dedicated to Arpad Weisz. The coach of Jewish origin, who had to leave Bologna and Italy in 1938 due to racial laws, was later deported and killed in Auschwitz with his wife and two children. He was born in Solt, a city in present-day Hungary, in 1896.
Bologna president Joey Saputo and CEO Claudio Fenucci will attend the ceremony.
There are speeches scheduled by Hungarian Prime Minister Gergely Gulyás, Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, Hungarian Football Federation President and FIFA Vice-President Sándor Csányi, and Bologna’s President Joey Saputo.
