Schouten’s career so far

The talented 22-year-old developed at Den Haag, starting as a left winger before moving into the middle for senior football. He spent a season in the Dutch second flight with Telstar before breaking out in the 2018-19 campaign with Excelsior. He was unanimously named the best player in what was a tough year for the Rotterdam club, who were relegated via a playoff.

Jerdy is a right-footed midfielder with good instincts in the middle and he’s distinguished by his technical ability and desire to always be involved in the play. When Excelsior beat Ajax 2-1, Schouten started to attract the attention of numerous European clubs, who were keen on his vision and passing. By sitting in front of the defence, he’s also very capable of winning the ball back. In fact, he ended the season as the player who recovered possession the fifth-most times in the Eredivisie, while he’s also good at immediately transforming defence into attack.

In July 2019, he joined Bologna on a permanent deal. He is the second Dutch player in our history.
