Project to refurbish the Dall’Ara presented

This morning, the technical panel that was established in March 2017 between the Bologna Council, Bologna F.C 1909 and Seci (Gruppo Industriale Maccaferri) met to discuss plans to modernise the Stadio Dall’Ara. Over the the course of the meeting, the architect Gino Zavanella and the engineer Massimo Majowiecki presented a new version of the renovation project for the historic stadium, updating that which was presented on 21 April 2017.

The Council was represented by  Raffaela Bruni, Cleto Carlini and Francesco Evangelisti while Bologna Fc 1909 were represented by CEO Claudio Fenucci and Seci was represented by the CEO Giuliano Montagnini.

The new project differs from the former because the vulnerability of the structure to seismic activity has been further researched, leading to the decision to build structures to reinforce the side stands along with the stands behind the goals as in the previous project. Along with improving the structural integrity of the structure, this will also significantly improve the view of the pitch.

The new structure could be built in phases, without requiring a halt in league matches being played on the pitch. In the revised plan for the stadium, the Torre di Maratona, original wall and the Portico della Certosa will continue to play an important role as vital historic elements of the stadium while the new structure will be a metal roof, designed to respect the presence of the tower. These design decisions discussed with the Superintendency confirm the importance of the tower as a symbol of the stadium which brings value to the city.

The stadium has been with a great focus of safety with the possibility of a full evacuation in five minutes in the case of emergency and accessibility for all.

The topic of parking was also discussed with around 1,500 parking spaces in the area next to the stadium, The stadium will have a capacity of around 27,000 (previously 25,000) and there will be the possible to expand to 29,500. The main part of the stadium is destined to be used for matches with a high standard of services for spectators while there will also be spaces for other activities that make it an attractive location for visits and meetings, including a Bologna F.C 1909 museum.

The council will now start to evaluate the project.
