Monday’s opponents: Verona

Neither Bologna or Verona have picked up points in any of their last four matches, with the last month proving incredibly difficult for both teams. The Venetian outfit have in fact only secured just one win all season, a narrow 1-0 triumph over Benevento, although they can take slight solace from their improved recent performances. The Gialloblu suffered a disappointing relegation two years ago, securing instant promotion the following year. Their main aim now is to simply avoid relegation, although they do face a fight as they currently occupy 19th place on level points with Genoa. They are heavily reliant on the input of Giampaolo Pazzini, whose experience and talent has already made an impact this season, scoring four goals in total. Cerci is also back in form with Verona, having overcome an injury suffered at the start of the campaign, since progressing to become a lively member of his team’s attack. This is also the case for vibrant winger Verde, who’s been a surprising and impressive starlet for both the Gialloblu and also the Under-21 National Team.

The few positive notes within the team also include that of Bessa, a useful midfield presence whose been important for coach Pecchia this season. He enjoyed a positive campaign in Serie B last year, demonstrating his positive ability when shooting from distance. He is a clear alternative to Romulo, who’s versatility and charisma is not in question, while he also scored a great winning goal to decide the recent result over Benevento. Caceres has also enjoyed a slight resurgence in Serie A, so far putting in better performances than both Souprayen and Caracciolo. As for Heurteaux, he has struggled in what is his sixth season in Italy’s top tier, while goalkeeper Nicolas has also failed to make much of an impact.
