Farewell, President

Giuseppe Gazzoni Frascara, our Honorary President, who led the Club from June 1993 to September 2005, sadly passed away this morning at the age of 84.
He was the protagonist of the rescue operation when he bought Bologna after the bankruptcy: he managed to rebuild the Club and the team, winning the C1 ‘94/95 league and Serie B in ‘95/96 after a short space of time, which brought the Rossoblù back to the forefront of Italian football. He was behind the signings of great champions such as Baggio and Signori, the Intertoto Cup victory in August 1998, a title that had been missing since ’74, the European journey with Mazzone’s team and their incredible run to the UEFA Cup semi-final 21 years ago. Gazzoni brought enthusiasm and great players back to Bologna, from Pagliuca to Andersson, from Kolyvanov to Cruz, and many others that remained in the fans’ hearts, he also oversaw Ulivieri, Mazzone and Guidolin as the men in the dugout.
In the autumn of 2001, he handed over the Presidency to Renato Cipollini, but remained the owner of Bfc for another four years before passing that to Cazzola. Having been instated into the role of Honorary President by Joey Saputo, he always stood out for his wisdom and class within Italian football.
The whole of Bologna Fc 1909 send their thoughts to his family, remembering with great fondness President Gazzoni, who has become a great part of the Club’s long history, and who contributed in a crucial way with his excellent work in bringing the Club back to relevance on the national scene.
