Donadoni: “We wanted to salute the fans in a different way”

Roberto Donadoni’s comments following the Chievo match. “I’m very sorry as are all of the guys. We started well and we should have finished it off in the first half. Then, in the second half, we weren’t ready or responsive enough for the chances they scored from and the match became more complicated from then on. We all take responsibility because we wanted to salute our fans in a different way. This competitive spirit is certainly something to work on for next year. Today was the umpteenth example. In the first half we should have finished things off with more conviction and if we’d done so today and across the season, then we’d have many more points. I understand the disappointment of a fanbase that expects more. It’s true that we’ve never been in risk of relegation all season but that doesn’t take away from the fact that we should have done better.”
