Tomiyasu’s career

He’s the second Japanese player in Bologna’s history and has joined the Club 15 years on from the arrival of Nakata. He’s also a centre-back on the rise after an excellent season playing in the Belgian top division and for his National Team, with whom he’s been involved in the Asian Cup and Copa America.

Well-built and two-footed, he has all the characteristics of a real commander at the back: quick reactions, great anticipation, aerial dominance and a football intelligence that isn’t easy to find. He loves to be on his toes ready to disrupt manoeuvres made by others (he intercepts numerous balls because of his excellent positioning) and manages the ball well: in the Jupiler Pro League last season, he finished up as the eighth best player in terms of number of successful passess – a great figure for a defender. His character is a standout feature despite his young age – he’s honest and shows fantastic application. He arrived in Belgium as an extremely young player in January 2018. After a period of getting used to European football, he started to steal the limelight last season.  He contributed to Sint-Truiden’s successful campaign, with the Belgian side surprisingly finishing seventh with one of the best records in terms of goals conceded.

In July 2019 he became a Bologna player on a permanent basis.
