Giancarlo González’s career so far

The Costa Rica defender was born in 1988 and he started his career at Alajuelense where he played between 2007 and 2012. In his home country, he won the 2010 Apertura, the 2011 Clausura and the 2011 Apertura.

In 2013, he signed a four-year contract with Vålerenga but in February 2014 he moved to the United States where he joined Columbus Crew. In the summer of 2014, he moved to Italy as he joined the newly-promoted Palermo. His Serie A debut came on 19th October 2014 in a home match against Cesena.

With the Costa Rican national side, he participated at the Under-20 World Cup and he has 54 senior caps and two goals. He played in the 2013 Copa Centroamericana, the 2013 Gold Cup and the 2014 World Cup. At 187 centimetres tall, Gonzalez has great physicality and he’s especially effective in the air.
