BOLOGNA FC 1909 AND RIZZOLI ORTHOPAEDIC INSTITUTE: AGREEMENT ON SPORTS INJURIES

Bologna FC 1909 and the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli have signed an agreement covering the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries.

The aim is to provide the Club’s athletes with an integrated, multi-specialist approach involving medical staff from both Rizzoli and Bologna FC 1909, ensuring the best possible recovery from sports injuries or overload-related conditions. Rizzoli’s services—available to the men’s and women’s first teams as well as the youth sector and delivered under private intramural practice—include diagnostic imaging, outpatient consultations, treatment of sports-related conditions through conservative or surgical approaches, as well as physical and pharmacological therapies.

In particular, the Institute’s specialists will focus on injuries affecting the knee (menisci and ligaments), hip, foot and ankle, shoulder and upper limb, hand and spine, as well as conditions such as sports hernia, groin pain syndrome (commonly known as pubalgia) and deep gluteal syndrome (formerly referred to as piriformis syndrome). For children in the Club’s Football School, a general outpatient orthopaedic assessment will also be provided.

“The Rizzoli is a leading centre for sports traumatology,” said the Institute’s General Director, Andrea Rossi. “This is reflected in the roles our professionals hold within the international scientific community—for example, Professor Stefano Zaffagnini serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and directs the scientific publication of the European Society of Knee Surgery. It was therefore a natural step for us to accept Bologna’s proposal: the Institute’s high level of specialisation, achieved and maintained through continuous research, represents a clear strategic asset in elite sport.”

“This collaboration with the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute marks an important step in strengthening the healthcare support available to our athletes,” added Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci. “Being able to rely on an internationally recognised centre of excellence allows us to ensure ever higher standards in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries. The integration between Rizzoli’s expertise and our medical staff is a key added value—not only for optimal player recovery, but also for the overall development of our sporting project, from the first team through to the youth sector.”
