Di Vaio to Radio Montecarlo: “Referees need to use VAR better”

Marco Di Vaio was interviewed this morning by Radio Montecarlo Sport Network and he looked back on incidents from the match away at Napoli. “The challenge on Callejon wasn’t a penalty, the referee also should have considered the strength of Masina and how he pulled out of the challenge, they need to do well in this regard. A great referee would have been aware of this. Then, it now seems there is support for VAR and the referees must make better use of it. It seems to me that after a start to the season in which VAR picked up credibility, the referees are now fearful of wasting time by using VAR but this penalises how the season plays out. They want to rush and only look at certain episodes using the silent check to show that the match goes on. Bologna’s season so far? We’re in line with what we wanted to do, we’ll look to finish in the top half of the table and improve on last season. Verdi’s decision to stay? We’re talking about a great player, he wanted to continue with us rather than at another club and this makes us proud. It means that Simone can see something important in the group, his teammates and the club. The fact that he’s staying and the addition of Dzemaili will allow us to look to the end of the season with confidence.”
