Bologna moved away from Serie A for one evening to travel to Lazio in an important Coppa Italia quarter-final. After an almost perfect trip through the group stage, the Coppa Italia became interesting for Radice’s side after suffering a heavy defeat to Juventus three days earlier in the league. Despite an upcoming fixture away in Pistoia, the Rossoblu took their strongest side to Rome in their determination to get a result against Lazio who were struggling in midtable in Serie B after a recent defeat to Rimini.
Zinetti was back after a month out, Benedetti was on the right and Eneas was chosen to start ahead of Garritano. Former Bologna player Chiodi had a goal disallowed for offside and Lazio created some problems for Bachlechner and co as they were led by Mastropasqua. The best chance fell however for the Rossoblu’s Eneas who was able to beat Nardin but not Pighin who cleared off the line. In the second half, Castagner brought on the young forward Marronaro who was making waves with the Lazio Primavera but it was Bologna who took control. A deserved lead came from a Paris penalty which was won by the usual Eneas. The second goal followed soon after as Fiorini finished from a precise diagonal ball from the excellent Colomba.
