Bologna offers condolences after Bruno Franzini dies aged 79
Bruno Franzini has passed away at the age of 79 in Cremona. A talented midfielder back in his day, Franzini made 65 appearances for the Rossoblu from 1961 to 1964. Growing up in the Cremonese youth academy and making his Serie A debut with Lazio, he arrived at Bologna from Rome along with Janich. From that moment on, Bologna could boast one of the best midfields around, playing alongside Bulgarelli in the 1961-62 season. Bernardini’s squad were lauded due to their revolutionary style of play, finishing the season in fourth place and lifting the Mitropa Cup.
A serious injury unfortunately prevented him from taking part in the 1962 World Cup, while he then also played less of a part during the following season due to tactical tweaks and the impact of Haller, once again with Bologna finishing in fourth place. The 1963-64 campaign saw the club triumph in Serie A, with Franzini making a total of three starting appearances against Spal, Messina and Vicenza.
Bologna Fc 1909 remembers Bruno with strong affection and we offer our deepest condolences to the family. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 10:00 CEST at the Sant’Imerio church in Cremona.
