Svanberg’s career so far

The ninth Swede in the history of Bologna, Mattias Svanberg is a 19-year-old midfielder from Malmö. Considered to be one of the top Scandinavian prospects, he has important mental and physical attributes and he stands at 185 centimetres tall. Svanberg is a quick midfielder, capable of making runs into the box while he’s also very good on the ball and he shoots the ball well.

After coming through at his local side, he developed at Malmo FF where his professional career began. He made his debut for the first team in May 2016, providing an assist. In the Allsvenskan, he scored five goals and provided ten assists from 36 appearances. During the current Swedish season which is still ongoing, he scored two goals and delivered three assists from twelve appearances. He also featured as a starter in the UEFA Youth League during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 season, boasting two assists.

For Sweden, he came through all of the youth sides, starting at the Under-15 side before reaching the Under-21 side where he is now. He debuted at Under-21 level at the age of 18 during a 4-1 win over Cyprus on 5 September 2017. Overall, Svanberg has scored three goals in 32 appearances as a youth international.
