“We conceded two goals from dead-ball situations but, apart from that, we rarely looked in trouble. I imagined that Fiorentina would have more possession that us but my team gave it their all; they tried to recover the ball quickly but, unfortunately, we committed the odd individual error. We have a lot of good young players but we don’t have enough depth and having a game in midweek certainly didn’t help. It’s a shame to lose today but I have nothing to say to the boys. I chose Dijks over Hickey because Aaron wasn’t fully recovered from the last game. Mitchell is important for me and he repaid my faith in him.”
