Di Vaio: “Astori was a fair and clean sportsman”

Club Manager Marco Di Vaio spoke this morning at the presentation of the Bologna School League which is a seven-a-side tournament for schools in the city.

“It’s very important for us to support this event for school football, the hope is that many of our current and future fans are here.”

“Sunday was terrible with the tragedy of what happened with Davide Astori, it reminds us that our daily worries are just superficial. I remember Davide as a fair and clean opponent, I’ve seen so many messages from his teammates, his friends and various clubs. It was nice to play with him and against him.

“In Ferrara, we started poorly and became tired trying to play out. We wanted to hit them on the break but we didn’t have many chances this way. The injury straight away for Poli and the red card didn’t help but then, when we were down to ten men we came out with something extra and fought to the end and we were competitive. After Spal went ahead, we got to the edge of the box various times but the final ball was lacking. Looking back, it was the wrong approach but in everything else the guys fought well and played in the way that we’d prepared. It’s disappointing but it gives us the right sense of anger before the next match against Atalanta. Destro’s miss? It happened to me like it does to everyone. He had the chance to shoot at an open goal in the 94th minute after a hard-fought match but then the unthinkable happened. He now has to turn this disappointment into motivation for next Sunday. Pulgar’s development? It pays testimony to how serious he is and how hard work pays off. He has great desire to improve and he’s become an increasingly important player for Bologna step-by-step.
